The Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense And Peppermints (1967 us, classic psychedelic flower power, debut album, 2011 sundazed issue)

The Strawberry Alarm Clock made musical history with its first single, the infectiously psychedelic “Incense and Peppermints,” which topped the singles charts in December 1967. It remains one of the Aquarian Age’s most enduring anthems. And as the California combo’s debut LP demonstrates, there was a lot more to the Strawberry Alarm Clock than their iconic trademark hit.

Incense and Peppermints combines gorgeously melodic flights with a Sunset Strip sensibility—the album is filled with trippy soundscapes, fuzzy guitars, sophisticated harmonies and the evocative lyrics of tracks such as “The World’s on Fire,” “Birds in My Tree,” “Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow” and “Paxton’s Back Street Carnival.” The result is a surprise-filled collection that All Music Guide calls “a strangely compelling mix of psychedelia, sunshine pop, garage rock, and California harmony.”

Mastered from the original stereo UNI?reels, this compact disc edition includes new liner notes by Domenic Priore and features the album’s unique original cover art.

  4. Marios,

I've enjoyed the postings of all the other SAC albums,
(unfortunately for me)neither of the Link Safe options for the debut seems active. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could repost this. Also, it would be a major coup if you or any of your contributors could post a vinyl rip of Hunger's The Lost Album put out by Arkama. This album features non other than The Alarm Clock's Ed King on Lead & Twin Lead Guitar. Every other post of this album on the web uses the CD version which omits two of the better tracks (Mind Machine & Colors) from the aforementioned "Lost Abum."

    Thanks,

    Capp

  5. Hi Capp,
link safe is for protection, maybe if you use another browser it works,
as for Hunger I have only the Akarma CD edition.
    Thank you.

  6. Marios,

I got it to work. I was probably past my daily allowance of non premium member downloads. It's a shame about The Hunger LP. Maybe one day I'll have the means to convert my vinyl to MP3 in decent quality. This fantastic site will have first dibs on the Rip.

    Thanks,

    Capp

  8. Don't need this already have it. Saw them live in a small club around the time this came out. We were expecting a rock show like the Grateful Dead also from San Fransisco. They came out with acoustic guitars and tambourines, and could hardly play those. This band was put together just to capitalize on the San Fransisco hippie movement.
