Timothy Leary - You Can Be Anyone This Time Around (1970 us, acid psych superb speech jam)

Leary takes the philosophy of the revolution one step further; inward to go outward with mind-altering drugs that no one knew how or why or where it affected the neurotransmitters of the brain. No one knew the correct dosages, or even if there were correct Dosages, or knowing who was susceptible to bad trips, throwing the neurochemicals into a logjamming mode, blocking essential personality traits from ever surfacing again.

Blow your mind, damn straight. but, as leary postulates, nicotine causes cancer, uquor destroys livers, guns can be bought with a permit; their dangers are known, posted for all to see, and yet they are legal why not LSD? it's one more freedom to fight for, the freedom to change your mind, the freedom to make up your own mind (starting from scratch), the freedom to blow it if you want to. Ultimate freedom, ultimate frivolity, a never-ending commute.

  5. I'm several years late to the party here but I have to say this 1 realllly surprised me. I have recordings of Stills/Hendrix jams & Jimi guested on 1 of Stephens solo gigs. But toss'n Timmmy Leary in there is a game-changer - like finding the missing link!
I didn't expect to see John B jamming w/them as well, but makes total sense too w/his harp skills, the man has a massive resume' & is underrated!
But I am dumbfounded there are not more comments here raving this up?
To begin with, we're all drawn here - thx to Marios's generosity (yes, A HUUGE THX), but 1st & foremost Mr T.Leary is the epicenter of why we are all here to begin with. Had it not been for what he did in San Francisco back in the Acid Tests maybe this music never would have come to be? IMHO This recording (although much later than the earliest Psych recordings) is the grand-daddy of the genre especially with the inclusion of Jimi. Carl Sagan screwed-up & should have included this 1 on the Gold Disk that's on the Voyager's journey "To Infinity & Beyond".
Thx Tim for all you did for RnR(& you too Narios)!

  6. Pretty funny when he mentions the Grateful Dead, but they play a Pink Floyd song instead.
